There are birthday gifts. You receive them in prettily packaged containers with bows and cards, only to open them immediately, packaging discarded to the floor, to find the treasure inside. Instant gratification.
There are Christmas gifts. Set below the tree for days, maybe weeks. You rattle them, squeeze them, and spend time in anticipation of what they might be. Then one morning you toss the packaging aside to find the treasure inside. A building climax, quickly done.
Depending on religion there may be others within or beyond the spectrum.
But occasionally your life touches a particular gift. Occasional glimpses let you see past the slowly unraveling packaging, let you see beyond to the shining treasure inside. The more you see, the more it becomes the object you desire.
But it is the one object you will never, can never possess.
